Dozens of students displaced after campus fire at SUNY Potsdam
Dozens of students will be moved to temporary housing at SUNY Potsdam after a weekend fire at the Van Housen residence hall.
Around 7:15 p.m. Saturday, SUNY Potsdam released a campus-wide alert, telling anyone inside the residence hall to leave immediately and avoid the area. About 30 minutes later, the fire was reportedly extinguished.
No injuries were reported and all students and pets were evacuated safely, but more than 60 residents were placed in temporary shelter for the night.
In a letter to the student body on Sunday, dean of students, Eric Duchscherer said residents living on the second floor of Van Housen Hall would be able to return to their rooms by 2 p.m. Sunday.
All other students will have to remain in temporary housing for the rest of the spring semester.
